Reference staff offers tours, resource
demonstrations for state employees
Reference staff members Gwen Harrison and Sandra Fritz are providing
tours and demonstrations of resources at the Illinois State Library for
state employees and officials. The tours offer demonstrations on how to
access the online catalogue and an overview of the various databases.
The library’s extensive map collection, patent and trademark materials
and numerous periodicals and newspapers also provide a wealth of
information for state employees.
“The State Library has so much to offer state employees,” said
Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White.“Don’t let this
treasure trove of information pass you by.Our reference staff is at
your service to locate the information you need for your next project.”
For more information about services available to state employees,
please contact Gwen Harrison at 217-782-5524 or gharrison@ilsos.net.
WestLaw replaces LexisNexis
In July, the Reference Section will begin using WestLaw for most of its
online legal and news resources. As a result, LexisNexis will be
discontinued. The new service includes access to state and federal
materials, including case and judicial materials, statutory information,
administrative laws and regulations, as well as journals and law reviews.
Federal resources contain information on all 50 states plus the District
of Columbia and U.S.Territories.WestLaw also allows access to more
than 100 local, regional and national newspapers in full text as well as
some business magazines, such as Barron’s and Crain’s Chicago Business.
The package also includes transcripts from more than 250 radio and
television programs, including Face the Nation and 60 Minutes.
Lueck retires; INFORM changes hands
Liz Lueck of the Reference Section retired in May following nearly 34
years of service with the Illinois State Library. Liz was a driving force
behind the INFORM Service. Her expertise and knowledge will be
greatly missed.Taking over for Liz is Carol Weyhrich, who has been
working with INFORM for the past four years. Please direct all
inquiries to 217-782-7596 or informationline@ilsos.net.
