Illinois Library Advocacy Day
After more than four years, the
library community is once again or-ganizing
efforts to bring its agenda
to Illinois lawmakers.
Although library advocates
maintain contact with local
legislators, they felt the time was right
for a consolidated effort to
demonstrate their strength and
commitment to Illinois libraries.
On Thursday, April 6, the Illinois
State Library will be the rallying site
for Illinois Library Advocacy Day.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. with
Illinois author Glennette Tilley
Turner describes the Under-ground
Railroad during the
Illinois State Library’s Booked
For Lunch series in the library’s
Illinois Authors Room. Booked
for Lunch is a free monthly
program, featuring Illinois
authors and their works.

Library supporters to meet with legislators on April 6
welcoming remarks from Secretary of
State and State Librarian Jesse White,
followed by presentations from the
various sponsoring library organiza-tions.
After the program, participants
will move across the street to the State
Capitol to meet with members of the
state House of Representatives and
the Senate to discuss issues vital to
Illinois libraries. Library program
funding, mandated Internet filtering
The ongoing development of the
new Find-It! Illinois Internet portal,
the Virtual Illinois Catalog (VIC) and
Illinois Government Information (IGI)
is making accessing these resources
easier and more user-friendly for the
library community and its patrons.
Following is an update on new
developments:
• New Interfaces for Find-It!, IGI
— Log on to http://findit.sos.state.
il.us to check out the new interfaces
for Find-It! Illinois and IGI.
• Software Upgrade for VIC —
An upgrade to SiteSearch 4.1 is in
progress, which will allow for the
development of the interlibrary loan
module.
• New Interface for VIC — A
new, user-friendlier interface is in the
design phase and will soon be ready
for testing by librarians. Your
feedback is valuable in adapting the
software to provide maximum
accessibility.
• Test Server — A new test
server for both Find-It! Illinois and
VIC allows for improvements to the
sites before being placed on the main
server. The test environment was
made possible by a donation of a Sun
Find-It! Illinois,
