nearly anything you need by contacting the
library's Reference Section by phone, fax,

We invite you to visit the library in person this

“The Man Who Made Modern America” —
Alexander Hamilton exhibit Aug. 31-Oct. 13
Through a grant from the National Endowment for the
Humanities, the Illinois State Library will present the touring
exhibit, “Alexander Hamilton: The Man Who Made Modern
America.” Hamilton was a tireless worker in the early
establishment of the government of the United States. Among his
many historical attributes, he was one of the key authors of the
Federalist Papers, defending the U.S. Constitution during the
period of ratification.
Hamilton served under George Washington during the
Revolutionary War and again as the first U.S. Secretary of the
Treasury. It was Hamilton’s support that made Thomas Jefferson
the third president of the United States. But Hamilton’s legacy
has been solidified as one of the more important founders of the
United States through his visionary thinking about government
and the economy that would lay the foundations of our country's
basic principles.
For the next four years, this traveling exhibit will be on display at
only 40 U.S. libraries. The free exhibit will be on display in the
Illinois State Library's first-floor atrium from Aug. 31 through Oct.
13 during regular library hours, Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For
more information, please contact the Reference staff.
We look forward to
hearing from you!
INFORM Service
INFORM is the Reference Section's information service for state
employees and elected officials to keep them abreast of current
events, ideas and research. Subscribers choose from a list of
more than 140 journals in a variety of subjects held by the
State Library, which may be of interest for work-related
informational needs. As new issues arrive, the selected journals'
tables of contents are mailed to the subscriber. An article of
interest from a table of contents listing may then be pursued
further by checking out that particular publication.
The service recently expanded to allow subscribers to receive
the table of contents listings through work e-mail. To sign up
for the service or for more information, please call 217-785-
5615, or e-mail islinfo@ilsos.net.
