Over the past few years, the
State Universities Civil Service
System has revised our mission
statement and attempted to
somewhat redefine our role
within the state's higher
education community. Even
though we still may technically
be defined as a regulatory
organization, we have attempted
to shift our focus to service,
specifically service to the many
varied constituency groups within our state and local university
communities. We have attempted to become more of a
resource and ally in the pursuit of the common educational
mission of the Illinois higher education community. We have
strived to create an image as an extension of the academic and
business operations of the many higher education universities
and affiliated agencies within our jurisdiction.
With service as our focal point, one of our major objectives has
been to build relationships, create synergies, and facilitate
collaboration with and between our many stakeholders at both
the state and local campus level. I hope that many of you would
agree that we have grown in our professional relationship with
your campus and have become more of a colleague and
partner in the delivery of your educational mission over the past
few years.
As we take a brief moment to review our mission today in the
current business and academic arena, many of the concepts
surrounding service still hold very true for our agency. Even though
we may be stronger in our professional relationships, we must and
will still strive to seek input and counsel from our many constituency
groups. Even though we are proud of our many new initiatives and
business progress, we will not take solace in the past and instead
will continue to focus on change and positive evolution to meet the
many needs of the Illinois higher education community. Even
though we have become smaller in terms of staff and finances, we
will continue to grow and expand with respect to our various
customer service features.
We remain even more committed to our new mission and image.
We will continue to focus on service and remain dedicated to the
many partnerships we have created over the years. We hope that
our stakeholders have seen some progress through our renewed
efforts to provide information, expand communications, and solicit
input on our various activities that affect each and every one of you.
We will continue to define our agency as a service organization and
welcome your input in assisting us in meeting this primary business
objective and fulfilling our agency mission.
On many occasions, we have had the opportunity to express our
sincere gratitude to the many people in the university community for
their continued commitment and service. As an agency,we strive to
also be deserving of similar accolades. In the end, service is our
common denomination and the glue that binds us together in our
efforts and achievements. Service will always remain our top
priority.
