Construction on US 51 Over I-72 South of Forsyth
Work Starting August 30, 2010
Location – US 51 over I-72 south of Forsyth
The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that construction work will begin on the structure carrying US 51 over I-72 south of Forsyth.
The work is scheduled to begin on the project on August 30, 2010. The work included in this section includes the removal and replacement of the existing bridge. Structure replacement will be accomplished via two main stages of construction, allowing US 51 to remain open to two lanes of traffic in each direction throughout the duration of construction. I-72 will remain open throughout the project with the exception of some nighttime closures to allow for beam removal and replacement. The Contractor will be allowed to close I-72, utilizing a detour, for six nights during stage one and six nights during stage two. A third stage will be utilized to complete the resurfacing of the roadway and ramps.
Stark Excavating, Inc. from Bloomington, Illinois is the prime contractor and Doug Rudolphi is the Resident Engineer for the Department of Transportation.
