Organizers are hoping for the largest turnout in
recent years as the library community prepares for its
annual Illinois Library Day on Wednesday, March 1,
in Springfield.
Library Day participants will gather at the Abraham
Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum and march
en masse to the Lincoln statue on the east side of the
State Capitol for a rally featuring library leaders in
the state. Participants will lobby their state legislators
before and after the rally. Organizers are hoping for
a turnout of at least 500 members of the library com-munity.
“Illinois citizens are blessed to have one of the most
dynamic and progressive library networks in the
country,” said Secretary of State Jesse White. “Illinois
Library Day is an opportunity for librarians to bring
attention to the value of each library to their respec-tive
communities, whether that community is a col-lege
campus, a school district, a city or a specialized
setting such as a hospital.”
This year, representatives from the Illinois Library
Association, the Illinois School Library Media
Association, the Illinois Library System Directors
Organization, the Illinois Special Libraries
Association, and the Consortium of Academic and
Research Libraries in Illinois will take part in the
event.
“With so many challenges and issues facing the
library community, it is more important than ever to
demonstrate a united front and participate in Illinois
Library Day,” said Secretary of State and State
Librarian Jesse White.

You “Tried-It” — Big time!
“Try-It! Illinois,” the State Library’s annual statewide database trial, was a phenomenal success,
receiving 66,243 visits during October and November 2005. Thanks to all the vendors who partici-pated
and all the libraries, librarians and patrons who perused the databases offered during the trial.
