System News to Feature HR Professionals
Lewis T. (Tom) Morelock, Executive Director
The State Universities Civil Service System quarterly newsletter, The System News, will begin a
series of articles written by various human resource professionals within the state’s public higher
education community. This series of articles will be written on various human resource topics and
will attempt to display some of the ‘best practice’ human resource models and philosophies
applicable to the selected topic. A brief biographical sketch of each participating writer will also be
provided. The series will be entitled “Insight” and will begin with the October, 2004 issue.
This new feature is intended to showcase the many progressive human resource programs and philosophies in action
through our many campus/agency human resource offices and provide some valuable contact points for the development of
similar programs across other campus/agency employers. These presentations are consistent with our statewide mission to
champion excellence and facilitate human resource programs that embody current philosophies and incorporate current ‘best
practice’ human resource models.
The list of state public university human resource professionals is quite extensive and includes a comprehensive set of
credentials and expertise across a myriad of human resource topics. These written articles will provide some insight on
many of these topics and potentially afford an opportunity for personal and organizational growth, evaluation, and
introspection. We extend our gratitude to the many experts who will be assisting us in the upcoming months in preparing
these articles and providing some real life insight into the human resource profession and its major role in the higher
education community.
