Permanent Public Access
Illinois Documents Depository Program
Electronic Documents Initiative
_________________________________________________
The Illinois Documents Depository Program and the Electronic Documents Initiative exist for one reason: permanent public access to the publications of the State of Illinois. The citizens of Illinois expect and have the right to obtain access to published information about state government. The plan to provide permanent public access is a partnership. The Illinois General Assembly assigned the responsibility of preservation and access to the Illinois State Library, and the responsibility of depositing publications to agencies, boards, commissions and other state funded entities.
Your publications are important to your constituency. When you deposit your publications, in all formats, weʹll make certain people can get them when needed.

What do they do with 40 copies?
_________________________________________________
Did you know that the publications you deposit are sent to libraries around the state, plus to the Library of Congress and the British Library? Publications of the State of Illinois for 2005 has been posted at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/who_we_are/pdfs/pubsofil2005.pdf. This is the list of state documents and publications that were deposited with the State Library last year. Please take a moment to see if your organizationʹs publications are listed. If some or all of them are not on the list, please contact the responsible person in your office and urge them to deposit those documents. This facilitates distribution and preservation of the information your organization publishes. Citizens should know about the important work your agency is performing

Library Access to Your Publications
_________________________________________________
Does your Web site have a page listing publications that are not online? What can you do about people wanting copies of such publications if youʹve run out of hard copies and havenʹt posted those items on the Internet? In many cases, a library will have a hard copy of the report, book or journal.
