Tuesday, November 6, 9 a.m.
Wednesday, December 5, 9 a.m.

at finditillinois.org to register.
During the month of September, staff
members from the Departments of Central

Family Services and the Legislative
Research Unit were trained on the EDI.

Springfield, please contact Connie
Frankenfeld at 217-782-5432 or

Reminder
Some recent deposits had incorrect
Creation software application and version
information. Please refer to the May 2007
EDI Depositor at finditillinois.org for a
quick review with an illustration of how to
locate the correct data for entry.

OCTOBER 2007 Collaboration Pays Off!
Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, the EDI Depository at
http://iledi.org contains more than 3,600 electronic publications! Over the last
year and a half, 142 state employees from 37 agencies have been trained.
The staff at the State Library appreciates your time and effort in ensuring that
your agency’s documents are deposited properly. For a list of depositing
agencies and each agency’s deposited publications, please visit http://iledi.org.
Subject Headings
The key to choosing subject headings when depositing publications in EDI is
to think from a user's point of view. If you were searching under a particular
heading would you be satisfied or disappointed to find the document being
deposited? If you would be satisfied, choose the heading. If you would be
disappointed, don't select it. Users depend on your entries in the metadata
generator to access the publications your agency deposits.
Visit finditillinois.org/metadata/subjtree.pdf for a full list of the subject
headings. Viewing the list may help you find subject headings that pertain to
your agency's publications. Remember, a topic may appear under more than
one major heading. Assign only the subjects that pertain to the specific
document you are depositing.
Build It and They Will Come
The interface for EDI has not yet been officially unveiled or publicized
because there are still agencies that need training. However, the public is
finding your deposited publications. In fact, there were 29,980 hits in July and
26,605 hits in August! Clearly, there is a public demand for your agency's
publications. Who knows what the numbers will be when the site is
publicized!
(Note: EDI Depositor will be published bimonthly beginning
with this issue. Look for the next issue in December.)
